Blue Moon Hostel; 234-2422; 215 E. Convent St. in Lafayette, 1/2 blk. S. of Johnston; Miniscule dance floor & usually very crowded; Music always starts later than posted. Park in the Bordens Ice Cream lot across the street ($5 parking).
Café des Amis; 332-5273;140 E. Bridge St. (the main drag) in Breaux Bridge; Sat. 8:30AM-Noon, Zydeco Breakfast Dance; Very crowded. Good food. Place opens at 7:30 on Saturday's, so if you want a table for breakfast, get there early! Closed New Year’s Day—Saturday.
Cowboy’s; 232-3232; 207 N. Ambassador Caffery Pkwy, just north of I-10 off exit ramp; Cajun or Zydeco on weekends. They allow smoking--a real problem. Watch out for drunks among the young people on the dance floor.
El Sido’s; 237-1959 or 235-0647; 1523 N. St. Antoine St; Zydeco on some weekend nights--sporadic. Owned by Sid Williams--Nathan's older brother. Smoking allowed.
Fred’s Lounge; 468-2300 or 468-5411; 420 6th. Street, Mamou (60 miles from LFT); Sat. 9:00 AM-Noon. House Cajun band. Miniscule dance space-very crowded—not for the claustrophobic.
Grant Street Dance Hall; 237-8513; 113 W. Grant St. next to the railroad tracks adjacent to downtown; Cajun, Zydeco & Swamp Pop on weekends.
La Poussiere; 332-1721; 1215 or 1312 Grand Point Rd., Breaux Bridge; Cajun dance Sat. evenings & sometimes on Fridays. Always an older crowd marching around the floor.
Mulate’s; 332-4648; 325 Mills Ave., Breaux Bridge (old Hwy. 94 to LFT); Cajun music every night 7:00-10:00, and sometimes at lunchtime. Pretty good food.
Pat’s Atchafalaya Club; 228-7110; 1008 Henderson Levee Rd. (Henderson exit off I-10 from LFT, turn right, left at the light, go 4-5 miles to the end of the road--you are there!) Cajun, Zydeco, Swamp Pop on weekends; Huge, very nice dance floor. Pretty good food-but slow service.
Randol’s; 981-7080; 2320 Kaliste Saloom Rd. (way out--on the right, and easy to miss); Cajun band every night 7:00-9:30 PM; Nice dance floor, and pretty good food. Usually very small dance crowd these days ($5 to dance).
Slim’ Yi-Ki-Ki; 942-9980 or 942-6242; N. Old Hwy 167 in north Opelouses just before the Piggly Wiggley (park in the Piggly Wiggley lot and walk back to the club); Zydeco on weekends sporadically.
Vermilionville; 233-4077; 300 Fisher Rd. (off Surrey across from the airport, and down the hill). Cajun or Zydeco every Sunday afternoon at 1:00 in the big barn, plus New Year’s Eve. There is a nice cafe in the grounds, open for lunch, even on Sundays.
Whiskey River Landing (Angelle’s); 228-8567; 1365 Henderson Levee Rd. (see directions to Pat‘s, then turn right along the levee for 2 miles to the "Angelle’s" sign, go up the gravel road over the levee--but don’t park on the levee if raining or muddy--you will get mired in it!); Zydeco on Sunday afternoons at 4:30 PM. They permit smoking, and it can be bad. When Geno plays, you barely notice it, as the place is packed and the air conditioning blows it out.
Wrangler’s; 896-0539; 3601 N. University Ave., Carencro. Easiest way is I-49 north to Gloria Switch Rd., turn left (west) off the freeway ramp, go 1 mile to the traffic light. Club is on the far right corner. Alternative route is I-10 west to University exit, turn right (north), go about 4-5 miles--club will be on the far left at the traffic light. Parking can be a problem; Zydeco or Cajun on weekends; Small, very smokey club with small dance floor and LOUD amplification; Can be very crowded
