Lafayette Area Restaurants

from Dick Brainard

The following list of restaurants is only a sampling of all that exist in the Lafayette area. Fast food joints abound, especially to the west and southwest along Johnston, Pinhook and Kaliste Saloom streets, and along Evangeline Thruway.

Many of the restaurants below are ones where I have eaten, and can recommend.

Jay Clem (graduate of UL Lafayette) says when in St. Martinville, try Josephine’s Creole Restaurant at 830 S. Main St. It’s funky & down home & cheap, but very good, according to Jay. Open for breakfast & lunch. Good place to stop when visiting the Evangeline Oak & the Creole-Cajun Museum in St. Martinville.

Josephine's Creole Restaurant‎ - southern soul
830 South Main Street St. Martinville, LA 70582-4412 (337) 394-8030

He also suggests visiting Cypress Lake in the middle of the UL Lafayette campus to get up close with alligators, turtles & cypress trees. He says to park in the bookstore lot. You are on your own to find it!

Dee Garner admonishes me re. the UL Museum at Girard & St. Mary’s. She says it deserves much more than the 15 minutes I allocated to it!

And, a number of you recommended many more fine tourist spots farther afield from Lafayette. Stop at the Lafayette Tourist Office between the legs of Evangeline Thruway just south of Willow for a trove of sightseeing information.
