Dance Camp 2008
Teresa, Jim Lalone's lady, works on Friday and Saturday nights. This is an important part of her income. She has never been to Dance Camp. The year Jim is Cascade Zydeco chairman and Teresa decided to come and surprise him - and what a surprise. She wore a blond wig, changed her make-up and glasses, wore a dress she hadn't worn in years and scruffy shoes (definitely not dancing shoes). During the afternoon Whiskey River lesson, whenever Jim was in the room, she kept her head down and shuffled through the lesson. Jim was in and out bringing drinks and food, taking care of business. He never even looked at the dancers.The evening dance came, the lights were dim and Teresa knew that Jim would eventually ask her to dance. She was such an obvious newcomer and Jim, gentleman that he is, always helps the new comers. She kept her head down and mumbled something as Jim counted at the dance steps for her and asked her if she knew zydeco. (Of course Cascade Zydeco members were standing around laughing their heads off.) Finally Teresa slipped and after a spin she made a dance move that Jim recognized. She couldn't help smiling at him. He stops. Tries to lift up her wig. He has to sit down. He is in shock.
