1. The meeting was called to order by Chair Jim Lalone @ 6:10 pm. In attendance were board members; Jim, Craig, John, Jamie(via phone) Janine and Patty.
2. The minutes of the last board meeting were reviewed and approved.
3. The welcome of new Board member Dawn was postponed as she was absent due to illness.
4. The Board considered the issue of having people on the signature card for our bank account at Washington Mutual who are no longer authorized to be signers on the account. The Board resolved that Rich Steronko is longer neither a Board member nor an officer of Cascade Zydeco and must be removed as a signer on the Cascade Zydeco bank account. The Board also resolved that the signers for the account shall be the current Board Chairperson, Co-chair person, Treasurer and Secretary. The authorized signers on this bank account shall be changed as new persons are elected to these Board positions. The current Board Chairperson is Jim Lalone, Co-chair is Jamie Morgan, Treasurer is Patty Kadel and Secretary is Craig Schultz.
THE SIGNATURE CARD NOW NEEDS TO BE UPDATED WITH WASHINGTON MUTUAL.
5. Patty presented the financial report. We lost $152.25 on our recent after Thanksgiving Day dance. We have $17,680.40 in our checking account. We usually net $200 to $240 each Wednesday CD dance.
6. A discussion was held on the clean-up of Norse Hall after our recent dance. Per our contract, we are required to perform some form of clean up after our dance. There was confusion on how to clean up the new dance floor.
The Board decided not to take any action or have any discussion with Norse Hall representatives at this time. Before any future event at Norse Hall, we need to have a clear explanation of what the cleanup will be. We also have to have a walk-through of the hall to note any dirt or damage in place before our event that we will not be responsible for cleaning.
7. The dance camp raffle activities have produced about $300, far less than what was expected. It was hoped that $6000 could be raised before dance camp.
John K. suggested that maybe CZ members could offer their services to people, e.g. putting up Christmas lights, or other handy man services and then donate the income to CZ for dance camp. A question of CZ's liability was raised if something happened while performing these services. No action was taken on this issue.
8. CZ agreed to help with the Leroy Thomas dance in St. Helens, a benefit dance for the old folk's home. CZ agreed to buy 25 Leroy Thomas CDs for $10 each from Leroy and he agreed to reduce his price for performing. Leroy agreed to perform after agreeing to these conditions. CZ will either auction the CDs or sell them at events.
CZ WILL NOT LET CZ'S DRUMS TO BE USED FOR THE LEROY THOMAS DANCES WHERE EVER HE IS PERFORMING DURING HIS CURRENT VISIT.
9. The Board reviewed member's questions:
a. Can CZ have a Christmas or New Year's dance this year. NO, NO VENUES AVAILABLE.
b. Can the Wed. CD dance time be extended to 10:30. NO, VENUE WON?T ALLOW.
c. Can CZ cut back or eliminate the Pot Luck feature at live dances since it is not well supported and clean up is difficult. YES, POT LUCK TO BE HELD FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS ONLY AS DETERMINED BY THE BAND COMMITTEE.
d. Could a DJ be provided for the Wed. CD dance to provide "better music"? CURRENTLY THE DANCE INSTRUCTORS PROVIDE THE MUSIC FOR THE LESSON AND FOR THE DANCING. WHAT IS "BETTER" MUSIC IS SUBJECTIVE. BOARD COULD FIND NO REASON TO HAVE A DJ AT THIS TIME.
9. Details of putting on the Cedryl Ballou dance on 12-17 plus in Eugene on 18th and the Trial Lawyers on the 19th were discussed.
Roland and Janine will coordinate with Jamie picking up the band at the airport and taking to the CZ dance.
CZ must provide transportation for the band to Eugene and back. John K has volunteered to drive if not working. Maybe Jamie's large vehicle can be used, CZ paying for gas and a driver can be found. Roland and Janine to work out details with Jamie and volunteers as needed.
Jim will get the drums to the Lawyers dance and hopefully be able to stay at the dance and take the drums at the end. Drums are not going to Eugene. Can Jamie arrange for Jim to attend this function, do a dance demo with Jamie and take care of the drums. Jim will make arrangements if he can't take care of the drums.
10. Jim will take drums for repair as long as they can be ready for CZ's 12-17 dance. Estimated cost $50.
Meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
