Zydeco Dance Etiquette
Dancing
- Ask someone new to dance; we all were beginners at one time.
- Say "yes" when asked to dance. If you can't make that dance,
ask that person another time.
- Dance to your partner’s ability.
- Keep dance moves within your own space.
- Be aware of your surroundings. Apologize if you bump another dancer.
- Dancing is all about having fun.
Criticizing your partner isn't fun. Don't give an impromptu lesson unless
asked.
- Thank your partner for the dance.
- Traveling dances like waltz and two-step move in a counter clockwise circle in three zones:
- Outer ring for fast traveling dancers
- Middle ring for slower traveling dancers
- Center of the floor for non traveling dancers
- Be careful with your food and drinks as you cross the floor. Spills
make the floor hazardous!
- When you are not dancing, step off the dance floor.
- Many people are sensitive or allergic to scents. Please use
sparingly.
- Ladies: Go for flat or low-heeled shoes or boots. Those spike heels
are bad for the dance floors and cause injuries to other dancers.
Band Areas
- Stay off the band stage area unless invited by the band leader
- Play instruments only during jam sessions or if invited by the band
leader.
- Ask permission from the band leader to take audio/video recordings.
Other
- Clean up your own area. At PPAA, there are trash cans and a special
recycle can for water bottles.
