I
joined the Cascade Zydeco board in 2008 for a couple of reasons. The first
one was to make a contribution to the volunteers that make CZ events work -
all those people who work behind the scenes organizing, making phone calls,
driving, cleaning up, and everything else that no one notices unless they
DON'T get done. I want to make sure those efforts get recognized and
appreciated.
My second goal as a CZ board member is to focus on making Dance Camp an event more people can afford. This is the first year we have tried to raise funds specifically for that purpose, so we're learning as we go along. But, since the purpose of Cascade Zydeco is to promote zydeco dance, the more people who can participate the better we live up to our goal.
I have been involved in the local dance community for more than 20 years teaching swing, country two step, waltz, and line dance. This fall, 2008, I taught a zydeco class at the Marshall Center for Vancouver Parks and Recreation which is being offered again for the 2009 winter term.
