Cedrl Ballou & the Zydeco Trendsetters were in Portland for the Blues Festival in 2008. Their three-generation band played Saturday at the Swamp Rock. Cedryl, his son and his great granddaddy (Classie Ballou) rocked the waterfront.
Cedryl Ballou, born in Lake Charles, La., and now living in Waco Texas, began playing in front of audiences at age five. His first professional gig, at age 11, was as the drummer for his grandfather, famed blues guitarist Classie Ballou. He got an accordion at 14 and fell in love. He burst into the zydeco scene almost ten years ago and Ballou now has three albums under his belt on his own Trendsetters Zydeco Records, his own record label and publishing company. Cedryl had the first Zydeco video to air on television in central Texas.
The Zydeco Trendsetters are a family
business. Cedryl's father, Cedric
Ballou, plays bass. Legendary guitarist, Classie Ballou Sr, and Cam'Ron
Ballou, a cousin, are also band members. Michael Edney on washboard
completes the band. The spiritual heir to the legendary Rockin' Sydney, Cedryl is carrying on the zydeco legacy by putting together his own family
band and winning converts all over Central Texas and beyond.
